The shed story

Hi, I'm Jen Smith.  Baking bread has been a tradition in my family for generations.  Growing up in Perry County, I loved spending time each week before and after school with my grandma, where I learned to make the family bread recipe.   We would measure out the ingredients into her big green bowl, proof the yeast slowly and mix by hand until the dough 'looked' right.  Homemade bread was a staple centerpiece side of every family meal and still is today.  She's taught my mom, aunt, and cousins as well, and we have all been passing the bread baking tradition onto our own families for years.  My husband Ben and I currently live in Duncannon, PA with our two children, Makenna and Owen.    

 

Sharing bread and baked goods with family and friends is truly a love language and familial right of passage.  I believe that breaking bread with our loved ones and neighbors can do much good for our local community. 

 

In 2020 I, along with so many others, dove deep into sourdough baking and have added several sourdough recipes to our list of favorites.   In 2024, after much encouragement from family and friends to share more, we've converted a portion of our garage into a licensed micro bakery so we can bake & share bread with local friends and family.  Lovingly termed, as an extension to our garage space, 'the bread shed' .
